SEVEN CARD STUD - TIP ONE: COUNT YOUR OUTS
Seven-Card Stud games are played as follows: Two cards dealt face down to each player and one card dealt face up to each player, then 3 more up card and 1 more down card (7 cards total, 4 of which are face up). Each player competes by playing their best 5 (out of 7) cards against their opponents. The beauty of stud is that you can see a lot of exposed cards! By seeing your opponents’ “up cards” you can (1) know these are cards not available for your hand, AND (2) these cards are in your opponent’s hand. Therefore, you have a lot of information to COUNT YOUR OUTS (cards you need to improve your hand) verses what you can see your opponents might be working toward in their hands.
